Self Portrait Project

This self‑portrait project is a way to create a particular kind of watching — one where looking is permitted, but being seen is not. By placing my body in the frame, I become both present and withdrawn, using myself as a vessel rather than a subject. The images hold a tension between exposure and disappearance. I extend this tension through painting directly onto the photographs. The paint functions as both a veil and a marker, allowing acts of hiding to become visible without revealing what is concealed. Rather than erasing the body, the painted gestures insist on its withdrawal, making absence legible as an intentional presence. The surface becomes a site where concealment is articulated, and where refusal is made visible — a way of showing the desire not to be fully seen while remaining within the frame.
